The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) held a 2-day Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction on August 25, 2026. A VRRR auction is when the RBI temporarily borrows money from banks to manage how much cash is flowing in the economy. Banks offered ₹98,516 crore and the RBI accepted the full amount at an interest rate of 5.24%.
The RBI uses these short-term auctions to control liquidity — that is, how much money is freely available in the banking system. When the RBI absorbs money from banks this way, it helps keep inflation and interest rates stable. This is a routine monetary management tool and does not directly change any product or scheme for individual citizens.
