The RBI (Reserve Bank of India) held an auction for government bonds called '6.94% GS 2036'. The government successfully sold the full notified amount of ₹34,000 crore worth of these bonds. The cut-off yield — meaning the final interest rate accepted — came in at 6.9136%.
Government bond auctions help the government raise money for its spending needs. The yield (interest rate) at these auctions signals where interest rates in the broader economy are heading. When government bond yields change, they can influence home loan rates, fixed deposit rates, and returns on debt mutual funds over time.
