The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted a special overnight cash absorption auction on August 18, 2026. It offered to absorb up to ₹75,000 crore from banks for just one day. This is a routine tool the RBI uses to manage how much money flows through the banking system.
When banks have too much spare cash, it can push interest rates lower than the RBI wants. By absorbing this extra cash temporarily, the RBI keeps short-term interest rates stable. This helps control inflation and maintains orderly conditions in financial markets.
