The Reserve Bank of India has directed all banks, NBFCs, and financial institutions to update their records with the latest United Nations Security Council Taliban Sanctions List. Five entries on this list have been amended as of July 30, 2026. Banks are legally required to ensure no accounts exist in the names of individuals or entities on this list.
India is legally bound under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, or UAPA, to follow UN Security Council sanctions. These sanctions freeze assets, ban travel, and restrict arms for individuals linked to the Taliban. Banks must comply or face serious regulatory consequences.
